How to Make Cannabis-Infused Coconut Oil| 0
Hello! Keira from Ambrosia here with another weekly recipe. Today I’ll be showing you how to make cannabis-infused Coconut Oil. Coconut Oil is a great, healthy alternative for infusing cannabis. It’s known to promote weight loss, boost the immune system, regulate metabolism, and aid digestion. As a topical, Coconut Oil is excellent for keeping skin healthy and moisturized as well as keeping your hair glossy and strong. The benefits are seemingly endless!
Before we start we’ll just have to collect a few ingredients and tools:
- 1 cup Coconut Oil
- 1 Cup Organic Cannabis (about 7g or ¼ oz.) (Decarboxylated)
- Slow Cooker or Crock-pot
- Airtight container (Mason Jar)
Step 1: Decarb
Similar to our Ghee recipe, we’re going to want to decarboxylate our cannabis in a process called “decarbing.” Decarboxylation is the process in which we release the psychoactive properties of cannabis. Raw cannabis contains THCA, a non-psychoactive compound that cannot cross the blood-brain barrier. With the application of heat, THCA breaks down and releases THC, the psychoactive cannabinoid.
- Start the decarb process by preheating the oven to 245° F.
- While your oven heats up, begin to break up the cannabis flowers/buds into smaller pieces with your hands or grinder.
- Place the broken up cannabis pieces evenly on a baking sheet with a rim to prevent pieces from falling.
- Place the baking sheet in the oven for 45 minutes, flipping every 10 minutes to evenly toast the cannabis.
Step 2: Slow Cook
Set your slow cooker to low heat and add your coconut oil. Once the coconut oil has completely melted, slowly add the decarbed cannabis.
Stir until all the cannabis is incorporated into the coconut oil.
For best results allow the mixture to steep for 3 to 4 hours on low heat.
Step 3: Strain
One your cannabis is fully steeped, turn off the heat. Wait until the oil has cooled slightly before handling. The oil will be very hot! Line your airtight container (or mason jar) with cheesecloth and secure it with a rubberband.
Slowly pour the coconut oil mixture into your airtight container. Allow to strain and cool for a few minutes. After it’s cooled for a few minutes, take a spoon and squeeze out every bit of coconut oil from the cheesecloth. Once you’ve squeezed every last bit, secure the lid and store in the refrigerator until use.
Step 4: Enjoy
What do you know? You’re all done, and you have a jar full of healthy, nutritious Coconut Oil infused with cannabis. Whether you’re planning to use it for edibles to promote weight loss and boost your immune system, or for topicals to keep your skin healthy or strengthen your hair, Coconut Oil proves to be one of the most versatile and useful ingredients in both the healthy conscious and cannabis adoring communities!
Be sure to come back next Friday when we make some comforting cannabis-infused Chai Tea!
